Architectural researcher Hauke Horn from the University of Mainz is studying Frankfurt’s impressive skyline as part of his research work. In doing so, he comes across countless unique structures such as the Commerzbank Tower, which was completed back in 1997 but remains the highest building in Germany. Yet it’s not only the tower’s size that differentiates it from other buildings in Frankfurt: Architect Norman Foster combined ecology and technological innovation by integrating so-called “sky gardens” – green spaces in the atrium – into his design. The silver tower of Dresdner Bank also boasts special architectural features: At the beginning of the construction work, the predominant ideal of town planning was an environment suited to road traffic, but later on, during the course of the construction process, creation of what is now the Jürgen Ponto Platz was made a condition.
