His road trip in the footsteps of the Frankfurt School takes Dr Jörg Später from Frankfurt to northern Germany, to Lüneburg and Hanover, where offshoots formed after Adorno's death that further developed Critical Theory in various directions under the influence of other contemporary influences. There he meets students of Adorno's disciples Hermann Schweppenhäuser (1928-2015) and Oskar Negt (*1934). In evaluating his encounters with the contemporary witnesses, the historian also comes to speak of the difficult relationship that often connects contemporary witness and historian. A tension, however, that is indispensable for his undertaking.
