The first section of the Conference "Visualities: Sports, Bodies, and Visual Sources" focused on methodological questions and approaches regarding the use of visual sources in sport studies. Prof. Dr. Michael Krüger from the University of Münster emphasizes the importance of visual sources like painting, film and photography as second-hand sources of physical activity. In the second talk of the section, Dr. Bernhard Hachleitner from the University of Applied Art Vienna explores the topic by using the example of a painting from 1948, depicting the Austrian national soccer team - the so-called "Wunderteam" - and image's role in nation-building processes. Prof. Dr. Stephan Wassong and Dr. Ansgar Molzberger from the German University of Sport in Cologne explain their efforts to make the university's visual archive accessible and visible to a wider academic audience and the general public.
