Ancient sites, historical monuments and archaeological sites in Jordan are also in danger of falling victim to the “building craze”, even though at least in Amman ancient monuments can be seen everywhere. The director of the Department of Antiquities, Dr. Munthir Jamhawi, sees the preservation of cultural heritage as the joint responsibility of humanity – after all, the finds constitute human heritage. And he hopes the project will help protect it from the dangers of increasing radicalization, and the international trade in antiques.
