Amman is the capital of Jordan, a metropolis of millions that is constantly expanding and whose archaeological sites are endangered by a “building craze”. Today the ancient heart of the city is already surrounded by modern buildings and with every new building, ancient remains disappear. The research project “Protecting Cultural Assets in Jordan” aims not only to protect archaeological finds, but also to raise people’s awareness of their importance. Amongst other things, this is to be achieved through the work of the city’s Archaeological Museum. Built during the period of British rule, today it presents numerous important treasures of world history. The project will include modernizing the cataloguing, storage and restoration of the finds in order to provide protection both from natural catastrophes and from damage by violent organizations.

Many thanks.
