Following her lecture, Maria Todorova discusses with sociologist sociologist Manuela Boatca whether and to what extent (de)colonization theories can be made productive in Eastern European studies. The focus is the question of whether all empires can automatically be regarded as colonial. Boatca argues with the concept of coloniality (Anibal Quijano), which refers to the fact that colonialism creates racial hierarchies, economic hierarchies, social hierarchies and cultural hierarchies that are still effective.
