The project “Protecting Cultural Assets in Jordan” seeks to protect Jordan’s archaeological treasures – not only from the so-called Islamic State (IS) and the international art trade, but also simply from falling into oblivion. In the general interview the project head and director of the German Evangelical Institute of Archaeology Prof. Dieter Vieweger and local project manager Dr. Jutta Häser talk about the project’s aims and challenges, and their collaboration with Jordanian colleagues. They also respond to other questions, such as whether the threat from radical Islamism is noticeable in their everyday work, what it’s like as a woman living and working in Jordan, and how people handle the colonial legacy.
