In the Middle Ages, the majority of people knew only one depiction of Christ: the figure of Jesus on the cross, an immobile image that tended to be mounted to the wall of the church. However, there were liturgical renderings, too, which showed Jesus Christ “in motion”. In a number of churches in Erfurt, Chemnitz, Döbeln and Zwickau Dr. Hartmut Kühne discovers, amongst other things, the “Miracle Maker” and the image of Christ ascending.
