In Erkelenz, environmentally friendly approaches are being tested to interfere with nature as little as possible during the mining of the raw material-rich tubers. What kind of options are there? How can manganese nodules be used economically without affecting the microcosm on the bottom of the ocean? However, exploitation will not be possible without harming the environment. So, it all comes down to one question: Which weighs more, the increasing demand for resources by modern societies - or the biodiversity on the seabed? Hence, the economy or ecology?
