What are the reasons for the rise of the Mongol Empire under Chinggis Khan? Why did the recently unified Mongols set off to Northern China and Central Asia in the 13th century? And how can findings from climate research assist historians and archaeologists in the classification of these phenomena? Prof. Dr. Nicola Di Cosmo, Princeton, follows in his lecture such and other questions. The talk was held in the Academy of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin as part of the completion of the program "Central Asia" of the Gerda Henkel Foundation on June 4, 2014.
