Rituals define the lives of the people in Nepal. Every day starts with the worship of the gods and the appeasement of the spirits in the neighborhood. These are followed by yearly ritual of renewals, which encompass all areas of God and people’s lives. The craftsman who work with the Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust on the reconstruction of the Harishankara Temple in Patan destroyed by the earthquake also celebrate their own ritual. The idea is to renew the power of the tools of the carpenters and the masons with the blood of a sacrificial animal. A celebratory banquet is just the perfect way to consolidate this sacrificial community.
