After a detailed understanding of the reconstruction of the Harishankara temple in Patan, an interview with Dr. Niels Gutschow offers insight into the clashes of the West and the East, and the background behind such an important project. Discussing the challenges and goals in the rebuilding of the area, the project leader explains that research can only be developed though fascination and personal interest, thus emphasizing the meaning of the project for both Nepali and Western workers. Financially supported by the Gerda Henkel Foundation, Niels Gutschow reiterates the importance of the craftsman employed in the project. Because of their unique abilities and immaterial legacy of architecture, it is the craftsman, rather than the donors and project managers, who lead the rehabilitation of the Harishankara temple.
