Museums in Africa work fundamentally differently than in Europe. While the ethnological museums in Cologne and Frankfurt were founded in colonial times to present the different cultures of the world, the Kenyan National Museum in Kisumu houses not only art and cultural objects but also live animals and rare plants that convey the art, culture, nature and history of the region and of local communities. The historical background and the different perspectives not only make it possible to understand differences, but also open up space for fruitful exchange.
