Archaeologists have been exploring the Oldendorf Totenstatt for more than a hundred years. The excavations have brought to light some extraordinary finds, such as the Oldendorf handle cup (Episode 2). For Dr. Julia Menne, the evidence of these excavations from the 20th century is an important treasure. At the Lower Saxony State Office for the Preservation of Monuments, the archaeologist is sifting through photographs, site plans and film reels from the campaigns – and asking new questions of the old documents. For some earlier assumptions of research are increasingly being called into question by findings produced by the use of modern research methods.
