In Basel, an interdisciplinary collaboration will help to learn more about life in Tel Shalem: The focus is on the dietary habits of the military, about which little is known so far. The findings from Tel Shalem are intended to change this - archaeobotanical findings will be used to determine botanical plant remains in sediment samples, as well as information from the history of nutrition. The scientists hope to gain insights not only into nutrition, but also into social structures: Did the inhabitants of the camp engage in trade? Which animals were kept in Tel Shalem? Did the diet of ordinary military personnel differ from that of the commanders?
