In the 20th century, evangelicals were confronted with being accused of anti-intellectualism - a development that could become dangerous especially in the context of the possible state recognition of colleges. The research team around Dr. Stephanie Coché is investigating this attribution and wants to take a closer look at the development strands of the term, problematise and differentiate. It seems particularly interesting in this context that rationality and religion were by no means regarded as opposites in the 19th century, but that the secular scientific world of the 20th century made the adaptation necessary.
