Antisemitism in Greece: Past and Present Trajectories

Conference, 7./8. July, TU-Berlin

Antisemitism expresses itself in different forms in today's Greece. Greek society has a long history of traditional or modern expressions of hatred against Judaism and Jews. The conference will discuss current research on the religious, political, economic, social, educational and popular dimensions of the phenomenon. In five panel sessions different aspects of antisemitic stereotypes, resentments and prejudices will be addressed.

The papers in this conference seem to have generated some interest and debate in Greece. There is some doubt, however, as to the accuracy of the reporting on them. Will the papers be made available to the public and, if yes, when and at which web address?
Thank you,
G. Georganas

Dear George, thank you very much for your entry. Unfortunately we cannot answer your question. Maybe Tobias Blümel can tell you more. But if you like some more input on the topic of antisemitism in Greece, we are going to publish an interview with Tobias Blümel on next Tuesday. Best, G. Chatzoudis

Dear George,

first of all sorry for not answering you for so long. As far as I know till now the ZfA (Centre for Research on Antisemitism) was planning to publish an edition of the conference papers. When this is gong to happen, I have no knowledge about.

According to what you've said, I was quite interested to hear, that the conference has created some debate in Greece, cause as far as I've seen, the Greek print press was not covering the conference. Only the greek department of "Deutsche Welle" published a review in greek. See here:ο-αντισημιτισμός-στην-ελλάδα/a-17769124

As well the german paper "Jüdische Allgemeine" (in german), see:

But maybe I've overseen something and therefore I would be glad to get further references on Greek press reviews.

I hope that I could help you a bit with these informations and I'm looking foreward to hear from you.

T. Blümel
