Prof. Lukas Clemens’ research primarily concerns the general historical context: Even after the death of Frederick II, in the 13th century Muslims were a common sight in the towns of Apulia. Traces of Saracen influences can be found in various buildings and even in former episcopal sees such as Tertiveri. Just how interwoven was Christian and Muslim culture in this part of Italy? Professor Clemens considers this question in his preparations for the planned excavations.
