In her research project funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation, cultural scientist Dr. Steffi de Jong is studying what is known as reenactment, meaning the staging of specific historical events. In doing so, she is pursuing a new approach because, contrary to what is commonly assumed, she sees the beginnings of these practices earlier than the 20th century. Thereby, three categories play a role in the consideration of the history of reenactment: authenticity, immersion, and performance.
