Colleagues, our new research article challenges the practice of managing cultural heritage sites in Africa. The argument we make is that sites such as Kilwa Kisiwani and Songo Mnara in Tanzania, which have received potential financial support, have not navigated out of the conservation and management challenges. Both the state party and international organization such as UNESCO deserve blame for the continuation of such conservation and management challenges.
