In Budapest, Robyn Radway explores the relations between the two rival great powers of the Habsburgs and the Ottomans. The Hungarian city is particularly suitable for this purpose, as it was once the interface between the two empires. Here Professor Radway turns his attention to the German albums written by diplomats in Constantinople and examines who the people were who immortalized themselves in the albums. How were the 500 or so men who published a total of 30 albums related to each other? Where did the men come from? Since biographical data on only a few of these individuals have survived, the researcher uses the methods of network analysis and resorts to special software to catalog images and signatures and make well-founded historiographical statements.
